FDA approves weight loss pill and calls it a drug.

Weight Loss Programs That Work!I read in the newspaper today that the FDA has approved a second weight loss pill. Hooray! or is it? The new and only second approved weight loss pill is called Alli (All-eye). The article stated that this pill when used in conjunction with diet and exercise has been shown to increase weight loss by as much as 50%. Wow! I'm impressed. That statement however was not backed up with any scientific data or studies showing that to be true, or what criteria was used to come to that conclusion.

Let's analyse this a moment. First and most improtant is that the FDA does not regulate the dietary supplement industry. Mainly because most products are plants, herbs and animal extracts. If the FDA regulated every food available then most of us wouldn't have enough money to eat. The FDA couldn't possibly evaluate every food out there. If it did we, the consumer would be passed along the cost of that evaluation. The FDA does regulate drugs to help keep us safe. The FDA does regulate food processing plants to ensure that they are clean and unconaminated.

Second: Most wellness coaches usually do not reccomend using drugs to promote weight loss. It usually isn't a positive healthy step to take drugs. The theory is that you could be exchanging one problem for another more serious one. It is better to be overweight than to be drug addicted.

To lose weight permanently and safely you need to plan and execute a program that is realistic and suited to you. For instance if you are seriously overweight you won't be able to just stop eating. In that case could try eating smaller portions more often. Remarkabley, this does help in weight loss. By eating less more often you keep your metabolism up, satisfy your hunger and burn more fat. Provided that you eat healthier and reduce your calorie intake along with it.

If you really want to lose weight don't take a new "diet pill", start a coordinated weight loss program. Find a wellness coach with proven success and follow their advice.
