By checking the glycemic index and load. You can identify which carbohydrates are good for you and which to avoid.
Your body converts carbohydrates into sugar, which gives you energy. That’s the good news. The bad news is that some carbohydrate foods turn into too much sugar too fast, with too many calories.
Colorful eating is about good choices, not about doing without. Pick the foods and flavors that you enjoy. Remember that protein plus healthy carbohydrates will help you burn calories and keep you feeling full.
Glycemic Index measures how fast the carbohydrates in a food turn into sugar in the body. Foods with a high glycemic index convert into sugar very quickly, with negative physical effects. Food Myth #2 - Cut out the fat and you'll lose weight. This approach to losing weight simply doesn't work. Just because a food is labeled 'Fat Free' does not mean that it is low in calories. Low fat foods may still have lots of sugar and carbohydrates in them. Many 'Low Fat' foods are labeled that way as an attempt to hide their true weight gaining properties. However, reducing your saturated fat intake is a good for your weight loss program, it just isn't enough by itself.

Calcium: is more than just good for your bones and teeth. Recent studies have shown that calcium binds fatty acids in your intestine making them unavailable for absorption into artery clogging fats in your blood.
Folic Acid reduces the risk of heart disease, according to new research. This essential B vitamin helps convert dangerous homocysteine in your blood to a safer amino acid, called methionine.
Vitamin E acts as your cardiovascular system's housekeeper. It cleans out cell-damaging free radicals and also helps to prevent platelets from clumping together and clogging your blood vessels.
B Complex: When you're under emotional and physical stress, your body taps your stores of B Complex to produce stress hormones like adrenaline. This in turn depletes the B vitamins necessary for the production of the hormones that let you relax again.
Magnesium: A vicious cycle exists between stress hormones and magnesium. When you're under stress your adrenal glands produce the hormones cortisol, norepinephrine, and adrenaline.
Vitamin C: helps your body prevent the overproduction of the stress hormones cortisol and DHEA. Excessive amounts of these hormones cause a dangerous increase in blood pressure, blood clotting, and blood sugar.
