A recent U.S. F.D.A. advisory has found links to liver damage and other ailments from the ingredients in Hydroxycut. On May 1, 2009, the FDA issued an advisory which states that, "Although the liver damage appears to be relatively rare, FDA believes consumers should not be exposed to unnecessary risk."
People who took Hydroxycut have suffered seizures, cardiovascular disorders, and rhabdomyolysis, a severe form of muscle damage that can lead to kidney failure. These injuries have occurred in consumers who took Hydroxycut in the recommended doses, according to the FDA.
According to the advisory, the FDA has received 23 reports over more than seven years about consumers having experienced serious liver-related problems coinciding with the time they were taking Hydroxycut-branded products.
Herbalife had a similar problem years ago with a product called "Thermo-Complete." In that case the suspect ingredient was Ephedra. Herbalife reformulated the product and renamed it to "Total Control." Total Control is Ephedra free. Other ingredients were added to make the product safer and more effective for consumers. One of those ingredients was a boost in Green tea.
Studies show that green tea is one of the most effective herbs for weight loss. Green tea has been shown to have many health benefits including helping shield the liver, intestines and skin from damage.
