Cheese Cow Territory, A Weight Loss Story!
I am refering to road racing at the premier road course in the U.S.A. A place called Road America where the 'Super Nationals' are held every summer for go-kart racing's top competitors. Road America is a 4 mile long natural terrain road course located near Elkhart Lake. Wisconsin, the land of cheese.
As a prize for placing in the top 5 in your race you are awarded a hunk of cheese in the shape of a cow. A very cool cow I might add. The cow is made of cheese, is white with black spots and coated in wax. This is a highly coveted trophy that people will come from all over to try to win.
HNS recommended a weight loss program Terry could easily do to reach his goal in the time he had available. The plan included a 'top 5 finish at Road America'. Here is Terry's weight loss story.
It is a good idea to jump start your weight loss program with an internal cleansing program. Cleaning out the colon and digestive system is key to begin rebuilding the cells and improve nutrient absorption. The idea is to improve the quality of food that you consume and how well you absorb the nutrients. To use a metaphor "out with the bad, in with the good."
At age 16 in today's modern society it is difficult to be a teenager and not succumb to peer pressure to consume junk food and sugar laden energy drinks. To combat this HNS educated Terry on how to select low carb, high protein snacks and what to look for in an energy drink. With this knowledge Terry was able to adjust his snacking, (which he loves) and reduce his excess calorie consumption.
Exercise is a key ingredient to any weight loss program. Even moderate exercise helps boost metabolism and build muscle. As you begin to burn fat cells you want to replace them with healthier cells such as muscle tissue. A good way to accomplish this is to feed the muscle and burn the fat.
To keep Terry on track without applying too much pressure we did not confront him with weekly or daily scaling and measurements. HNS did not want him to be discouraged by not seeing progressively better results, after such a great start. Instead HNS supplied a more positive feedback and support in the way of tips and herbal nutrition solutions to reach his goal. Two weeks into the program Terry weighed in with a 14 pound weight loss. Which of course made him ecstatic.
Terry was so happy he decided that the weight loss program was a success and he could go back to his pre-diet eating habits. This is a natural reaction. Many people feel that when they reach that first big goal they can relax the weight loss program and resume a non-diet mode. For most dieters this is a disastrous course and often leads to a weight gain rebound. Many times resulting in an overall increase in weight.
For Terry, this was ok, his goal was to weigh 'within 10 pounds of minimum weight' for his class after the race. That would mean losing 20-30 pounds from his starting weight. With 2 weeks and only 6 pounds to go he decided to adjust his weight loss program as he saw fit.
Terry had established an excellent workout routine that he dilegently practised. No encouragement was needed as he continued to keep the snacking at bay and had much healthier eating habits.
Without consciously thinking about it Terry had successfully improved his eating habits, beat the peer pressure to consume junk food, improved his nutrient absorption, reduced his overall weight and increased his energy levels.
Terry felt real good as he continued his own weight loss program, as he saw it. Which was to eat smaller portions more often, workout regularly, curb the bad snacking habits and drink more water. Terry made it a point to be more active, keep himself hydrated and eat less junk food.
Fourth place is a remarkable result as this was Terry's first race at Road America. Many drivers take years to get into the top 5 in this race. For Terry to do it his first time is extrordinary. Hat's off to Terry for his great accomplishment. He won a spot in 'Cheese Cow Territory' at Road America, on hid first try. Awesome!
But did Terry reach his other goal? - Lose 20-30 pounds in a month. The moment of truth arrived at the post race weigh in. Each racing class has a minimum weight for driver and car after the race has been run, which in Terry's race is 410 pounds (186kg). When the scale read 423 pounds (192.3kg) we knew Terry had come real close to his goal only 13 pounds overweight. When the car by itself weighed in at 204 pounds (92.7kg) we knew Terry had lost at least 20 pounds since his initial weigh in. Terry reached his goal of losing at keast 20 pounds and finishing in the top 5 at Road America.
With cheese cow in pocket and 4th place in hand Terry beamed brilliantly all night long. It means everything to him to have such a wonderful accomplishment on his first try. All because he set himself a realistic weight loss goal. Just goes to show what can be done with the right attitude and knowledge of how to set and reach your goal.
An attainable weight loss goal would go like this: "I want to finish in the top 5 at Road America" so I need to lose 20 pounds in a month. Or "I want to fit into my skinny jeans again" so I need to lose 5 inches around my belly before summer is over. Or "I want to look great at my wedding" so I need to lose 10 pounds and 3 inches off my waist, before the big day.
Just wanting to lose weight usually does not provide enough ambition to reach your weight loss goal. On the other hand a special event coupled with a weight loss program that works can significantly increase your chances of success.
