New Herbalife Pricing Rule

Update June 2011: Herbalife extended the new "herbalife pricing rule" to include the phrase "each user must have their own unique password." For Herbal Nutrition Solutions this meant de-activating all pricing info on this site until a compliant solution emerged. It has.

New users may now select their unique password for accessing pricing info. However this is not an automatic thing. Due to technology restrictions I need to manually input your password into the system. If you request a password please allow 24-48 hours for me to activate it.

Update: April 12, 2010 Herbalife pricing rule changed yet again. To paraphrase the new regulation says that all pricing info is prohibited on all types of media without prior contact with the distributor. This includes but is not limited to newspapers, radio, TV, Internet, email and print media.

The goal of this new policy is to have distributors build relationships with their customers. And to level the playing field for distributors that are not using the Internet as a business model.

Here is what I gathered. Herbalife received enough complaints from (offline) distributors that don't participate in Internet marketing that they decided to prohibit any pricing information without prior contact with the distributor. To ensure that this is the case (at least online) all pricing info must be behind password protected pages.

To comply with this rule many webmasters (including me) spent a lot hours and money restructuring their website(s). For many others that meant folding up shop and leaving the business. In the long run it may well mean reduced sales for all distributors online and off.

As I see it this new rule will not increase the local offline distributors chance for making repeat sales. Because once a customer is introduced to the benefits of Herbalife they will continue to seek more information. And they are going to search for it online. Online the information resource is too great and too available for offline distributors to compete with.

For the online distributor this new rule means adopting new or different strategies to compete. The method I use is to incorporate "For Pricing" buttons in place of pricing info or "buy now" buttons.

On Jan. 15, 2009 Herbalife International released new Herbalife pricing rules for independent distributors in the United States. For that reason we have had to remove the discount coupon from this blog. The pricing discount is still in effect we just can't tell you what it is on the top (public facing) tier pages like this blog page and the main website's home page.

The new Herbalife pricing rule makes acception for linked pages (tier 2) like our Herbal Nutrition Store page and product pages. In a nutshell the rule says:

"As to the Internet, independent Distributors conducting business in the United States: May not advertise product prices or pricing information on Internet home or landing pages. Home and/or landing pages may only contain a live hyperlink entitled "for product prices and pricing information, click here"; the link can direct persons clicking through to a page or pages within the site that contains product prices or product pricing information. (“Landing pages”, which are considered by Herbalife to be public-facing advertising, are those to which one is linked directly by inputting or clicking on the master domain name/URL, e.g., www.herbalife.com, without additional navigation; or those to which one is linked directly from search engine results lists). May advertise product prices or pricing information only on the pages below (or after) the front or landing page of a Web site that they personally operate and control. For example, prices and pricing information may not be advertised by any other means or on any other Web sites, including, but not limited to:

Email (including email sent to mobile phones and other handheld devices)

Banner ads anywhere on the Internet;

Popup ads anywhere on the Internet;

"Sponsored search results" or "sponsored ads" anywhere on the Internet;

On social networking sites including, but not limited to MySpace or Facebook, or on any blog or public message boards.

What does the new Herbalife pricing rule mean for Herbal Nutrition Tips?

Glad you asked. The simple answer you will hardly notice any change. In the upper right hand corner of this blog you will no longer see the discount coupon. As mentioned earlier it is still in effect but only visible on level 2 or below pages. So keep an eye out for that when surfing around inside the website.

Fortunately, the system I use allows me to quickly upgrade my website and blog to comply. I can make a few simple changes that proliferate through out the web pages in only a few minutes. To me this is simple but for many others this task may not be so easy.
