Weekly Weigh In
Day 14 of my lose 10 pounds in a month weight loss program. Uh-oh, I'm slipping. As expected, my day off from the weight loss plan has me gaining back 1 pound.
OK, so I pigged out yesterday and played coach potato all day. But can you blame me. After successfully losing 6 pounds I gained one back. So, I took a day off so what?
I'd say that I did a dumb thing. I weighed myself to close to a previous weighing. But I wanted to show you how to avoid the humiliation of gaining weight while trying to lose it at the same time. In yesterdays blog I said it was okay to pig out as a reward for losing weight. This tip goes on to say it is a good idea to tell your friends and family that you are on a weight loss program.
So that's me. I hung out with the family and chowed every three hours or so. Meanwhile telling anyone who would listen of my weight loss success. And here I am today telling everyone else that I gained a pound back. Oh the humiliation, why did I do that? Maybe next time I lose 5 pounds, I'll stay on the program that would prevent the backslide, right?
Wrong, instead next time I won't weigh myself the day after my day off. I should not have done that in the first place. Here's why!
Tip #2 of 10 sensible weight loss tips states:Weekly weigh in: Only measure your results and weigh yourself once a week to give your body time to make adjustments. It took time for you to put on that extra weight and it takes time to lose it too. Keep going with your plan and don't be afraid to change it. Identify areas that can be improved and apply your ideas.
So, here is an idea. Add ancle-weights to my feet. I have some 5 pound work boots, so I'll wear those. The added weight will force me to do extra work as I move around during the day. This should help to burn more calories right?
Right! Adding weights to your body forces your metabolism to work harder to get the same amount of work done. I've already shown that my weight loss plan is working so a little extra work should reverse the weight gain pretty quickly. That extra pound I just gained will be the first one metabolized and burned off. After that I will continue on my weight loss program untill the next reward time comes up.
